Moroccans appeal to Algerian president

Arrested in Oran, Moroccans were sentenced to prison while they were preparing to emigrate to Europe. Concerned, the Coordination of families and relatives of young Moroccan candidates for migration detained, imprisoned and disappeared in Algeria calls on President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to intervene.

Since October 2023, young Moroccans wishing to emigrate to Europe have been the target of investigations. They were arrested and imprisoned in Algeria. Prosecuted for migrant trafficking, they were sentenced to four years after the offense of attempting to manage the illegal exit from Algerian national territory was reclassified. These young Moroccans entered Algerian territory legally, via flights to Carthage airport in Tunisia, then changing destination to Houari Boumediene airport in Algiers as part of tourism. According to reports, a criminal network specializing in irregular migration operates in the coastal regions of the wilaya of Oran in exchange for financial benefits, and its members were in contact with people wishing to emigrate illegally, in order to lure them in an attempt to smuggle them into Spain.
