Moroccan YouTuber sentenced, her YouTube channel permanently closed
Aïcha Sraidi, a controversial figure on the Moroccan web, better known under the pseudonym “Houyam Star”, was sentenced to four years in prison by the Aïn Sebaâ criminal court of first instance. Her husband, Mohammed El Kahlaoui, was also sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams.
The case began following several complaints denouncing the YouTuber’s behavior on social networks. His appearances in outfits deemed “indecent”, his insulting and defamatory comments, as well as the physical violence inflicted on his own children have aroused indignation. Aïcha Sraidi was also accused of blasphemy and apostasy for having renounced Islam and declared her adherence to Christianity.
