Moroccan woman files complaint against her parents after forced marriage
A 22-year-old woman of Moroccan origin ran away from home in Alicante to escape a forced marriage with her 40-year-old cousin. The latter paid the young woman’s parents 1,000 euros for the arranged marriage. The parents and the cousin were arrested.
The young woman had been suffering physical and psychological violence for years from her parents, who regularly beat her and prevented her from socializing. In her complaint to the national police, she explains that her parents and an aunt agreed to give her in marriage without her consent to a 40-year-old cousin in exchange for 1,000 euros. The formalities for the marriage should be completed in December at the Moroccan consulate in Valencia, relays The Spanish.
