Moroccan tomatoes banned in Russia
Russian authorities recently intercepted a shipment of tomatoes from Morocco in the Kaliningrad region. After in-depth analyses, it turned out that these tomatoes carried viruses that were potentially devastating for local crops.
It was the Russian agricultural services which sounded the alarm. A batch of Moroccan tomatoes, weighing more than a ton, was placed in quarantine after the discovery of two viruses: the rough brown tomato fruit virus and the pepino mosaic virus. These extremely contagious viruses represent a serious threat to tomato crops.
