Marriage: change to be expected for MREs
Marriage: change to be expected for MREs
The Moroccan Family Code is about to undergo substantial changes. The Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, presented yesterday evening before King Mohammed VI seven amendments approved by the Superior Council of Ulemas, some of which concern Moroccans residing abroad.
Among the points raised is the possibility for Moroccans living abroad (MRE) to contract a marriage without the presence of two Muslim witnesses. This measure has been requested for many years by MREs, and it was not uncommon, when in a consulate, to be requested by MRE couples looking for witnesses to validate their marriage.
