Marrakech: Traffic jams scare away tourists

As Morocco prepares to host major sporting events such as the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) and the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal, Marrakech, a global tourist destination, faces a major challenge: urban mobility.

It is no longer easy to get around Marrakech due to the monstrous traffic jams. There is severe traffic congestion on its main arteries, such as Yaacoub El Mansour Avenue, Mohammed V Avenue, Hassan II Avenue, Zerktouni Avenue and Abdelkrim El Khattabi Avenue. This traffic congestion hinders the movement of visitors, making access to tourist attractions and major events difficult. An ordeal for residents and tourists. If nothing is done, traffic congestion could harm the image of Marrakech, one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, and cause it to lose foreign currency when major sporting competitions such as the African Cup (CAN Morocco 2025) and the 2030 World Cup are held.
