Marrakech Festival: films on homosexuality divide Morocco
The exaltation of homosexuality through the films selected for the 21st edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, as well as the space granted to Abdellah Taïa to publicly display his homosexuality are not to the taste of Abdelilah Benkirane, secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) and former Prime Minister.
“There are things that are inconceivable in a Muslim country, like what happened at the Marrakech Film Festival, where films exalting, in one way or another, homosexuality or sodomy were were presented, in addition to the exaltation of a person who did not keep what she experienced to herself, her family or her doctor, but chose to disclose it publicly,” criticized Abdelilah Benkirane in a speech delivered during the ordinary meeting of the PJD general secretariat, held Saturday at the party’s central headquarters.
