Maes arrested in Morocco: the rapper caught by the courts

French rapper Maes was arrested on January 22 in Morocco, where he had taken refuge after fleeing Dubai. This arrest follows an international arrest warrant issued by French justice in October 2023.

The 29-year-old young artist, originally from Sevran, was wanted for his absence from a trial where he was accused of violence in a meeting, facts which date back to 2018. Sentenced in absentia to ten months in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros in June 2024, Maes chose exile in Dubai, claiming threats against him. “I left for Dubai after vehicles in my music video were burned by people jealous of my city (…). They tried to extort me, I said to myself, but usually it’s me who does this to people,” he declared to Generations.
