“Kim Miso”: the first Moroccan influencer to conquer Korea

Kim Miso, real name Ibtissam Harakat, left Morocco in 2018 and settled in Korea, where she realized her dreams of becoming a singer and promoting Korean, a language she fell in love with in 2008. Today, she has become the country’s biggest Arab celebrity.

It all started with a Korean series broadcast on Moroccan television. “In 2008, Moroccan television broadcast a Korean series called My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. I was amazed by the fun and quality of this series and, from that moment on, I started wanting to watch other Korean series because I fell in love with the Korean language from the first sight – or the first sound,” Kim Miso tells the site My taste Music. Her love for the Korean language was such that she ended up going to Korea in 2018. “When I started learning about Korean culture, I started listening to K-pop songs like Super Junior and Girls’ Generation. Then, I started understanding words like ‘Hello’ or ‘Thank you.’ I came to Korea in 2018 to study the language at SNU (Seoul National University).”
