Judicial victory in Spain for the Moroccan royal family

Eurosemillas, a Spanish agri-food giant based in Cordoba, and producer of the protected Tang Gold mandarin variety, lost its case in September against Nadorcott Protection, belonging to the Moroccan royal family, and producer of the protected Nadorcottt mandarin variety.

In September, the EU court confirmed the protection of the Nadorcott mandarin variety contested by Eurosemillas, producer of the Tang Gold mandarin variety. The two varieties are protected by the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) which rejected an appeal from the Cordoba company in 2020, deeming it “unfounded”. The appeal aimed to verify “whether Nadorcott’s protection was compliant or not,” Eurosemillas CEO Ana Cano told El Diario newspaper.
