In Tunisia, Moroccan families in distress

In Tunisia, several Moroccan families are having difficulty educating their children due to the cessation of payment of the educational support granted to them by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

“The suspension of school aid, which was granted to children from vulnerable families who were in school, has sparked widespread controversy among parents and guardians of students, as well as great anger within their ranks. (…) Although the amount of this aid is modest, heads of families were counting on it to help them ensure the schooling of their children, especially in this period marked by the high cost of living and the increase in prices in Tunisia for some time,” said Hespress a Moroccan resident in Tunisia and president of the Association “Promotion of the Moroccan Community in Tunisia”. According to him, the financial and social situation of parents of Moroccan students in Tunisia has deteriorated significantly, aggravated by the sudden cessation of aid and the back-to-school grant. “Why is the Moroccan community in Tunisia deprived of this subsidy while other communities continue to benefit from it, whether in Algeria, Ivory Coast or other countries?” he asked. “This problem has become a daily topic of discussion among members of the community who are asking for this aid to be resumed, especially since some of them have to support their families in Tunisia as well as their families in Morocco.” He added: “This subsidy is linked to the future of a significant number of students, who expect significant action from those in charge in Morocco to help them continue their studies and persevere in their learning.”
