In Morocco, a festival near a mosque does not go down well
The organization of festivals near mosques in some villages in the Souss-Massa region has sparked outrage among some activists on social media who consider this practice to be “an attack on the sacredness and symbolism of the mosque as a place of worship that demands respect.”
Voices were raised against holding these cultural activities near mosques, after the organization of the “Tamlalt Lberj” festival in the Tiznit region, on a square adjacent to a mosque. Even if these festivities took place “in respect of places of worship and prayer times”, they did not fail to arouse controversy on the web.
