While considerable sums of money have been released for its realization, the development project of Oued El Jawahir in Fez, presented to King Mohammed VI, is today in abeyance.
The transformation of the Oued El Jawahir in Fez into a “river of Venice” is struggling to become a reality. While the last visit of King Mohammed VI to the city helped put an end to the pollution and neglect of the Oued El Jawahir, the situation is far from rosy today. The Oued El Jawahir “suffers under the weight of neglect and the proliferation of waste and harmful insects,” it is noted. However, the sovereign had given instructions and considerable sums of money were released for the site of the Oued El Jawahir, which is among the main monuments of the medina, as part of the strengthening of the development dynamics experienced by the medinas in different cities of the kingdom.
