Imane Khelif: Moroccan boxer targeted by “death threats”

Accused on social networks of being partly responsible for the controversy surrounding Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who is participating in the Paris Olympic Games, a Moroccan boxer has filed a complaint for “cyberharassment”, “insults”, “death threats” and “defamation”.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who is participating in the Paris Olympics, is at the heart of a controversy surrounding her gender identity, for which Moroccan boxer Oumayma Belahbib, a member of the International Boxing Federation (IBA), is accused on social media of being partly responsible. “I am accused of being at the origin of the plot against Imane, because I will be her competitor, because I am Moroccan and because I am a member of the IBA,” Belahbib reacted to the Parisian. She claims to have received thousands of threatening and insulting messages on social media, “more than 200 per day”, since August 1, the day of the match between Imane Khelif and Angela Carini, but also “violent content containing her identity and her face”. Belahbib assures that she is not responsible. “It’s a problem between these two boxers (Imane Khelif and Angela Carini) and I’m put in the middle”, she explained. Exasperated, Belahbib filed a complaint for “cyberharassment”, “insults”, “death threats” and “defamation”.
