How Morocco made Algeria bend
During the weekly session of oral questions in the House of Representatives, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd returned to Algeria’s failure to try to illegally appropriate heritage Moroccan intangible property in Paraguay.
During a recent meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, Algeria attempted to appropriate Moroccan intangible heritage, but suffered a failure. Thanks to the collective mobilization of Moroccans and the synergy between the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and civil society, this malicious initiative was successfully thwarted, affirmed Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd. With supporting evidence, the Moroccan delegation managed to convince the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The latter accepted Morocco’s protest and decided to remove the image of the Moroccan caftan from the Algerian file.
