Hotels in Marrakech closed, here’s why

Thirty-one Marrakech hotel establishments were forced to close their doors for three months. This radical decision, taken by the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Farid Chourak, follows numerous breaches of the regulations in force.

Joint commissions, made up of representatives of local authorities and the police, carried out inspections in several hotels and guest houses in the ocher city. These checks revealed “flagrant” offenses according to the Wilaya of Marrakech, ranging from non-compliance with closing times to the illegal sale of alcohol, including noise pollution for local residents and behavior deemed inappropriate.
