Green gold that can bring billions to Morocco

Morocco is launching a bid to conquer the European medical cannabis market, with the ambition of becoming a major player. The kingdom is aiming for a significant market share, between 10 and 15%, and intends to take advantage of the growing legalisation of therapeutic cannabis in the European Union, where 21 of the 27 Member States now authorise it.

Since Morocco legalized medical cannabis in 2021, investments have been pouring in, attracting nearly 200 companies to the booming sector. The Moroccan Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry and Innovation predicts annual revenues of up to MAD 6.3 billion within four years, if the country can meet its market share targets in Europe.
