Full cemeteries in Tangier: residents appeal to authorities
Residents of Tangier are facing a dire lack of space in the city’s Muslim cemeteries. They are calling on local authorities to urgently find a solution to this problem to allow them to bury their dead with dignity.
The people of Tangier are sounding the alarm over the saturation of the main cemeteries Sidi Amar and Al Moujahidin, as well as other small neighborhood cemeteries. Local authorities and city officials have been struggling for years to find a lasting solution to this problem. In 2008, they announced the creation of four new cemeteries of 50 hectares each in the city’s four districts (Tanger Ville, Souani, Mghogha and Beni Makada), and another with a surface area of 20 hectares in the commune of Ksar Sghir. But due to a lack of funding, these projects never saw the light of day.
