French businessman imprisoned in Morocco

Implicated in a financial case, the Champagne winemaker Didier Chopin was arrested and then imprisoned in Morocco while he was expected in France to be tried in a case involving 1.5 million bottles of fake champagne, produced from wines from Spain and Ardèche and carbon dioxide.

Fleeing justice in his country, Champagne winemaker Didier Chopin settled in Morocco in September 2023. He created Les Champs sans frontières, a company producing and exporting fruits and vegetables. But things did not go as planned. He was arrested in June 2024 and then imprisoned in Morocco. He is accused of having issued bad checks. Facts considered fraud under Moroccan law. He could be sentenced to a prison sentence of 1 to 5 years.
