France: Heavy sentence for a drug baron on the run in Morocco

On the run in Morocco, the leader of a drug trafficking network active in Canteleu (Seine-Maritime) was sentenced in absentia to the maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of two million euros by the court of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis).

In total, 18 alleged members of this “very high intensity” cocaine, heroin and cannabis trafficking network active in Canteleu were tried during a trial that lasted one month (end of May to end of June). This gang generated “exceptional capital inflows” reaching 15 million euros between 2019 and 2021, according to estimates by the Bobigny court.
