Former Moroccan mayor surrenders after months on the run
The former president of the municipality of Blessed Chikerin northern Morocco, presented himself to the Royal Gendarmerie. An arrest warrant was issued against him at the end of last year for mismanagement and abuse of power.
These accusations date back to the period when he was head of the municipality. He was accused of having taken advantage of his position to obtain illegal advantages and of having mismanaged the finances of the municipality. The Nador Court of Appeal recently confirmed the first instance judgment, sentencing him to one and a half years in prison. This judgment was rendered in absentia, because he was absent during the trial.
