Floods in Spain: the toll increases for MREs
A second death has been confirmed among Moroccan nationals in Spain, bringing the number of victims among MREs to two, following the devastating floods which hit the south and east of the country. The Consul General of Morocco in Valencia, Saïd El Idrissi Bouzidi, announced this new death, while the search continues to find 45 Moroccans missing.
Faced with this tragedy, Morocco is mobilizing. A “crisis unit” was set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to monitor the situation and provide support to Moroccan nationals affected by the disaster. In coordination with the Spanish authorities, this unit is deployed on the ground to identify victims and come to the aid of those affected. Two telephone numbers have also been put into service to report disappearances and support families.
