Export of Moroccan oranges threatened

The citrus industry in Morocco is facing enormous difficulties linked to the drop in production due to the scarcity of rainfall, which affects its presence on international markets.

Moroccan citrus fruits are no longer popular internationally. The product faces stiff competition from other countries like Spain, Turkey and Egypt. The cause is a drop in production volumes. “The drop in export volumes can be explained by the combination of several factors: recurrent droughts, frost episodes and temperature variations have directly impacted the production and quality of citrus fruits,” writes The Economist.
