End of year holidays: MREs flee Europe
Many Moroccans living abroad (MRE) return to Morocco to spend the end-of-year holidays, far from the festive hustle and bustle that characterizes European countries.
“I want to visit my family and spend quality time with them during the New Year holidays,” confides to Hespress ZM, a young Moroccan who got off a plane at Ibn Battouta airport in Tangier, where his mother Amina and Ahmed were waiting for him. He arrived on a low-cost flight from Bordeaux airport, bound for the “Pearl of the North”. According to him, he spent seven years in France, where he worked in an electricity company. He celebrated the majority of New Year’s Eves in Morocco. ZM further indicated that the majority of passengers on the flight to Tangier airport were MREs.
