Discovery in Morocco: the little-known cradle of a flourishing agricultural society
Africa’s oldest and largest agricultural complex outside the Nile Valley, reshaping historical visions of the Maghreb region, is in Morocco. This is the discovery made by a team of Moroccan, British and Italian researchers.
Moroccan archaeologist Youssef Bokbot, Cyprian Broodbank of the University of Cambridge and Giulio Lucarini of CNR-ISPC and ISMEO, and other researchers have discovered traces of an ancient agricultural society in Oued Beht in Morocco , revealing that between 3400 and 2900 BC, a large-scale agricultural community flourished in the region. According to this discovery published in the journal AntiquityThe Oued Beht site is located in northern Morocco, strategically located between the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts and the Middle Atlas Mountains.
