Controversial visit by Spanish minister to islands disputed by Morocco

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles visited three Spanish islands and rocks claimed by Morocco this week: Velez de la Gomera, Al Hoceima and Chafarinas. The aim was to galvanize the troops so that they could continue to guarantee the security of Spanish territory. But this visit did not necessarily please Morocco.

Margarita Robles visited these Spanish rocks located off the coast of Morocco on Monday to see for herself the working conditions of the soldiers posted in these territories and to boost the morale of the troops. The Minister of Defense was in Vélez on Monday, where she visited the facilities and developments carried out on this rock, located halfway between Ceuta and Melilla. “I know that it is a great effort to be here and I thank you on behalf of everyone. It is a very advanced presence in Spain and a very beautiful place,” Robles told the soldiers there.
