Colonial archives: an unprecedented gesture from France towards Morocco
As promised by President Emmanuel Macron during his state visit to Rabat at the end of October, France is preparing to return some 2.5 million colonial documents to Morocco.
These historical documents that France is preparing to return to Morocco would contain proof of the kingdom’s sovereignty over its territory, including the southern provinces. This is not the first time that France has returned archives from the colonial period to Morocco, recalls Young Africaspecifying that Paris had handed over certain archival documents to Rabat in September 2022.
