Children’s rights: Morocco tops the ranking in the Maghreb

Morocco stands out as the best performing country in the Maghreb in terms of children’s rights, according to a ranking by a foundation based in the Netherlands.

With a score of 0.776, Morocco ranks 54th out of 194 countries assessed in the ranking of the Netherlands-based KidsRights Foundation. It owes this position to the good results recorded in terms of children’s right to health. However, gaps remain in terms of the right to life. Progress is also needed in the areas of education and empowerment of children’s rights, where the kingdom ranks 67th and 76th respectively. According to this 2024 Children’s Rights Index, the kingdom is ahead of Algeria (56th), Tunisia (59th), Libya (100th) and Mauritania (134th). Conducted in collaboration with Erasmus University Rotterdam and the International Institute for Social Studies, this ranking measures countries’ compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
