Charente Prefecture: Emmaüs volunteer in headscarf humiliated

Ilham Bouhadjar, co-president of Emmaüs Ruffec, was refused entry to a meeting at the Charente prefecture, in Angoulême, because of her headscarf.

The activist was unable to take part in a meeting at the Charente prefecture on June 18 because she was wearing a scarf on her head. She explains to Free Charente the sequence of events. “We had an appointment at 2 p.m. I first dropped off my assistant director, Johanna Ream, in front of the gates, before going to find a parking space since we were a few minutes late. I came back and went through the first gate of the prefecture. I entered the hall, signed in and they made me wait,” she explains.
