Casablanca imposes a new aesthetic on cafes and restaurants

The Casablanca town hall has decided to harmonize the urban aesthetic of the city and put an end to the disorder linked to the occupation of public space. In this sense, it is working on the development of new regulations aimed at standardizing the terraces of cafes and restaurants.

The facades of cafes and restaurants will soon be standardized in Casablanca. After the campaign to demolish the facades of some cafes and restaurants presenting a danger to customers and passers-by, this is the challenge that the city has taken on. Local authorities intend to harmonize the designs of facades and terraces, particularly in the city’s main arteries. “This new initiative aims to improve the visual appearance of the city by adopting uniform designs and colors, like the major world metropolises,” said Ahmed Afilal, vice-president of the Casablanca City Council, emphasizing that “the majority of cafes and restaurants use varied designs that do not correspond to the aesthetic identity of the city”.
