Cancellation of the EU-Morocco agreements: the Polisario is jubilant

The Polisario Front welcomed the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) annulling the fishing agreements between the EU and Morocco, considering it a “triumph of resistance”.

With this decision rendered on Friday, the European Court ruled in favor of the Polisario which had requested the cancellation of this agreement, on the grounds that the “consent” of the Sahrawi people had to be required before its conclusion. Western Sahara is a “different territory” from Morocco which cannot negotiate and sign any agreement with third parties on its behalf, said Abdullah Arabi, the Polisario representative in Spain.
