Cancellation of fishing agreements: what impacts for Morocco?
Cancellation of fishing agreements and agriculture between the European Union and Morocco will not be without consequences on the lives of consumers on both sides of the Mediterranean.
The Court of Justice of the European Union annulled this agreement, which expired in July 2023, on October 4, on the grounds that they were concluded “without the consent of the people of Western Sahara”. “Such consent is lacking in this case,” affirmed the Luxembourg court in its decision which sparked an outcry on both sides of the Mediterranean and whose consequences seem unclear to say the least. This verdict from the European Court could weigh on negotiations for the conclusion of a new fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco, analysis Young Africa.
