Belgium forced to accept expelled Moroccan imam?
Blocked in Morocco since October 2021 due to the withdrawal of his residence permit, the controversial imam Mohamed Toujgani could return to Belgium by the end of the year. The Brussels Court of Appeal validated his application for Belgian nationality on Wednesday. An appeal by the public prosecutor’s office is not, however, excluded.
Mohamed Toujgani had his Belgian residence permit revoked in October 2021, while he was in Morocco. With the decision of the Brussels Court of Appeal which has just validated his application for acquisition of Belgian nationality, the Moroccan imam can hope to return to Belgium by the end of the year, informs The last hour. Stuck in Morocco for almost three years, Toujgani should return to Belgium, where his wife and children remain, before the end of the year, unless the public prosecutor files an appeal in cassation.
