An MRE implicated in a vast money laundering affair
An MRE implicated in a vast money laundering affair
With the help of the National Financial Intelligence Authority (ANRF), a bank managed to unmask money laundering following a transfer from the island of Nauru, a well-known tax haven located in the Pacific. The beneficiary is a Moroccan resident abroad (MRE), owner of a travel agency in Morocco, who wanted to invest the enormous sum received in a tourism project in the north of the kingdom.
It all started with the transfer of one million dollars (about 10 million dirhams) from a bank located on the island of Nauru, a country classified as “high risk” for the benefit of an MRE, a client of a national banking establishment. The origin of the money prompted the bank manager in Morocco to launch an investigation into the operation. The investigation revealed that the beneficiary owns a travel agency in Morocco and intends to invest the money received in a tourism project, reports Assabah. A project that he will implement with a foreign partner in one of the cities on the Mediterranean coast.
