After 45 years of separation, Khadija reunites with her biological family in Morocco
Khadija Ghanima, 45, is living a real fairy tale, tinged with a painful past. After growing up thinking she was an adopted child, this Belgian-Moroccan woman discovered a shocking truth last summer: she was kidnapped at birth from the Rabat hospital. Her biological parents believed for 45 years that their little daughter, Samira, had died a few days after her birth.
Khadija, who lives in Wilrijk (Antwerp) with her two daughters, Fatima and Yara, thought she would have a normal childhood in Mohammedia, reports Nieuwsblad.be. Adopted by a loving couple, she never felt the need to research her origins until she left Morocco at the age of 18 to settle in Antwerp after her marriage in 1998. She says she had a “incredibly beautiful” childhood. His adoptive parents, who have since died, always hid the truth about his origins from him. “Luckily they didn’t have to experience that, it would have broken their hearts,” she whispers.
