Singer Causes Uproar in Essaouira: Moroccan Flag Thrown to the Ground

Palestinian-born singer Saint Levant was forced to apologize to Moroccans after causing an uproar in Essaouira by throwing to the ground the Moroccan flag that had been given to him on stage during his concert as part of the Gnaoua and World Music Festival.

The Saint Levant concert in Essaouira on Friday June 28 as part of the Gnaoua and world music festival kept all its promises. He heard the Moroccan public sing back his greatest hits. From the first song to the last, the magic happened. But one incident almost ruined everything. While delivering one last song, the singer of Palestinian origin made a gesture that was inappropriate to say the least. He got rid of the Moroccan flag that had been given to him on stage by throwing it on the ground. Enough to arouse the indignation of Moroccans.
