A new approach to eradicate the slums in Morocco

The government of Aziz Akhannouch is determined to stem the proliferation of slums in Morocco by 2028-therefore, before the 2030 World Cup, by focusing on rehousing, the creation of a national register and control of the Proliferation of slums. “Indeed, in the past, we demolished these slums by holding the populations on the spot, but the task was complicated by the fact that we did not find public land around, and that most of the people were relocated very far from their work and schooling places for their children, ”explained Media24 Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri. But this policy has consumed a lot of public land. According to the Minister, she has also created other social problems. These problems prompted the ministry to change paradigm: it favored an integrated approach with the launch of calls for interest in real estate developers who offer their own plots to achieve, on behalf of the State, housing social at 250,000 dirhams or benefiting from direct state aid, in which the former inhabitants of slums will be relocated.
