A historical phenomenon in the Moroccan desert
Heavy rains have created lakes between sand dunes in the desert town of Merzouga, near Errachidia, in southeastern Morocco. A phenomenon that has not happened for decades.
Considered one of the driest places in the world that rarely experiences rain in late summer, Morocco’s southeastern desert recorded a historic phenomenon this year. According to the Moroccan government, two days of rain in September exceeded annual averages in several regions that receive an average of less than 250 mm per year, including Tata, one of the hardest hit regions, reports Daily Mail. This heavy rainfall created lakes between the sand dunes of the desert town of Merzouga, near Errachidia.
