A growing Moroccan middle class, really?

In Morocco, car sales have seen a sharp increase over the past decade, going from 111,000 units in 2011 to more than 161,000 units in 2023 per year, an increase of around 45%. The same trend is noted with regard to the purchase of housing, reflecting an improvement in the purchasing power of households.

According to economist Driss El Fina, president of the independent Center for Strategic Analysis, interviewed by Rue20several factors explain this growth in car sales. He cites in particular the expansion of the middle class, easier access to consumer loans and the improvement of transport infrastructure in large cities. Tax incentives, such as exemption from customs duties on electric and hybrid cars, have also caused an increase in demand, analyzes El Fina.
