A fine for indecent clothing in Marrakech?

Reports that authorities in Marrakech have fined women and girls for clothing deemed indecent in public spaces are false.

According to several sites and Facebook pages, a fine of 2,000 dirhams was imposed on several women and girls for wearing indecent outfits last week. A measure which would aim to reduce incidents of harassment and sexual assault in public places, but also to reinforce the feeling of security in the streets. Taking this measure would be motivated by increased fears related to incidents of harassment and the preservation of public modesty.
