A famous Youtuber gives in to Algerian pressure after a video evoking Morocco
Jordanian YouTuber Joe Hattab returns to his video on the Moroccan-Algerian border made in May 2023, and which caused controversy, especially in Algeria.
In the “Sans Papier” podcast, Joe Hattab explained that two sequences in his video made some Algerians uncomfortable. First sequence: when he reached, with several Algerians, the border with Morocco, a Moroccan on the other side waved to them and shouted “Long live Algeria”, and an Algerian responded with “Long live Morocco”. The second scene involves traders at a popular market in the Algerian town of Maghnia, who said they were importing some spices and pottery from Morocco. Hattab documented the sale by local traders of spices and pottery imported from Morocco, before traveling to Tlemcen to highlight the architectural similarities with the city of Fez.
